Do Not Let The Cat Unplug Your Dreams!

In the great poem, "A Dream Deferred", written by one of the greatest poets of our century, Langston Hughes,  he asked the question "What happens to a dream deferred?"  That, in itself, is a very good question that lends itself to an intelligent and thought provoking answer that goes well beyond the scope of this article at the moment but would very much begin a series on the topic at a later time.  However, let's explore Mr. Hughes's lines of qustions...

Does it dry up

like a raisin in the sun?

Or fester like a sore--

And then run?

Does it stink like rotten meat?

Or crust and sugar over--

like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags

like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?

Now what DOES a dream deferred mean?  Well, to sum it up, a dream that is deferred is a dream that has been "put off", but why?  Why has the dream been put off...maybe temporarily or permanently?  Could it be procrastination, fears, doubts, lack of motivation or discouragement as well as a lot of other supporting cast members designed to encourage failure?  Sometimes the message that failure does NOT come from the lack of achieving, but from the lack of trying  FAILS to show up...but don't you fail to show up! 

Show up!  Show up!  Is your dream just soaking in sorrow or being drug like a bag of heavy bricks?  I your dream waiting on you to move but you are waiting for it to move?  I've got a newflash for you...your dream will not move without the efforts of the dreamer.  It will just sit there and fester like a slab of rotten meat, fermenting like cheese that stinks beyond its due because  too many days passed through and it went beyond its time. Even though the cheese went through its trials in the process, is never gained satisfaction from being enjoyed.  Now the odor has gotten to be explosive and that is not sweet!  Do not let the animals of time destroy you.  Do not let the dog eat your homework that only you dreamed of and do not let the cat unplug your dreams!

So appeal to your dreams, respond to your call, resting cool in faith,

without burning up in fear;
